Welcome to my new blog!
I hate the gloomy Oregon winters, so this year I've decided to get my cats a foster home, put my stuff in storage, and follow the sun south. I don't have a definite plan, but I've always wanted to spend some time in the desert southwest and I've never even been to the Grand Canyon. So I'll start there. If I get bored with the desert (or the winter gets too cold), I might head to New Orleans and volunteer with Habitat for Humanity for a few weeks. Who knows where I'll end up - please feel free to make route suggestions in the comments. My only requirement is that yellow thing in the sky that Oregon just doesn't have from September thru June.
I've been busy the last couple weeks trying to get ready for my trip. I finally found a foster home for my cats today - an OSU student who seems really nice and loves cats. Yeah!!! I'm so excited to have a good home for my beasties. Now I just need to finish sorting all my stuff - how did I ever accumulate so much junk? I'll be having a big garage sale the weekend after next, so if you're in the Covallis area, stop in and buy lots.
I'm in my house here until October 1, so my plan is to leave Corvallis a few days after that. I'll post details when I figure them out.

As for sunny spot recommendations, I think you may be onto something w/ the SW.
Sedona, AZ is a cool, spiritual spot... and Gallup, NM is an interesting town full of natives selling turquoise jewelry. And there are a number of affordable motels.
Personally, I am already embracing the gloom. Ready the dark, tomb-like ambient minimalist music, the winter clothing and minor key orchestras on vinyl- I'm ready!
(but I do hope you find happiness in the sun.)
